"I met Jean Butler and Michael Flatley in Lillies Bordello in Dublin
a couple of years ago, just as Riverdance was taking off. I was
particularly struck by both of them. Flatley, for all the negative
press coverage that I have read about him in Ireland, was quite
a shy, unassuming, soft-spoken and intelligent man ( he gently and
humorously endured a barrage of adverbs and adjectives, strung together
staccato -style, by a very inebriated Bill Graham, who wanted to
discuss the evolution and fusion of Irish and Appalachian tap-dancing).
Jean Butler was of course the gorgeous, leggy female lead of the
original Riverdance troupe and I got to do my own little jig with
her on the dancefloor - I felt as good as if I'd done five rounds
with Mohammed Ali!. Bobby Ballagh designed the original Riverdance
show, not me, as has been assumed before. He did a very fine job,
but did he get to boogie with la belle Jean?. A friend of mine,
Greg Wheeler, asked me to work on the Riverdance TV and cinema commercial
and this has been my only involvement to date, that is until I manage
to sweet talk Jean Butler into posing for me. Watch this Space!.
