Under the 'Paper Tiger' imprint, Fitzpatrick was contracted to publish three books. The first two, 'The Book of Conquests' and 'The Silver Arm' were completed while the third volume in the trilogy 'The Son of the Sun' never saw the light of day, though Fitzpatrick hopes to finish and publish it sometime this century, or maybe the next!. The two published books did not set the world on fire initially, much to Fitzpatricks disappointment, but since then their combined sales have totalled almost a half a million copies : " As an artist and writer you've got to believe in what you're doing", says Fitzpatrick,"otherwise nobody else will".

Around the same time in '77, Verkerke approached me to do a range of posters and cards so,by the time that I moved to the USA, I was so busy that, despite the fact that I had to sell my house and ship a forty foot container of my entire library and studio to the US with me, I had to keep on working. I will always remember that frantic period of my life. We (myself, my wife and two young kids) arrived in New York with nowhere to live, stayed in hotels and motels while househunting, while every spare, rare moment that I had to myself I wrote and drew nonstop for the Book of Conquests. I even ended up playing Connecticut League semi-professional soccer to earn a few extra dollars.

In 1997, the 'Paper Tiger' group went into liquidation. " I was left in deep shit by this unexpected collapse", explains Fitzpatrick, "I had earned sweet shag all from Paper Tiger over the years and by 1996 my books were suddenly popular. 'Conquests' was even republished in German and English and for the first time in nearly twenty years of dealing with 'Paper Tiger', I was actually owed a small fortune which I am never going to see a penny of. Cest la vie!."
